I'm not familiar with those rules and I kind of left the miniatures market a decade ago but first and foremost you should pick a rules set that matches the scale of miniatures you are using or plan on using. Black Powder is a generic set of rules to cover the period of 1700-1900 (even the English Civil War with some modifications). Now I have chosen the Zulu War as it is a contest between radically different armies, hordes of spear armed Zulus against a small professional army of British with effective rifles, artillery and cavalry. At 12:04 #130427. Nathaniel Weber. I made some modifications to Neil Thomas's One Hour Wargames in order to play an Anglo-Zulu War game last week. The results were fast moving and fun, and felt, to me, historically appropriate. The scenario saw a British force split over a river, with their light cavalry—Frontier. Wargame Holidays have announced their 2014 Schedule. They include World War 2 (20mm Normandy 1944 and Crete 1941); Anglo-Zulu War (Isandlwana in 15mm and Rorke's Drift in 28mm); Black Powder in 28mm (American Civil War, Indian Mutiny, and French & Indian Wars); Pirate ship to ship action (in 28mm); and new in 2014: Continue reading.

I have a free set on 10mmWorld.com (look under Articles), which I really should move over to the Free Wargame Rules site. They are for fighting larger actions very quickly, but give a good feel for the ebb and flow of the British need to maintain a static firing line and the Zulu need to advance and flank. I've been happy to get reports of groups other than ours enjoying them. Cheers, Christopher | |
